Privacy Policy

Welcome to WakeJam ("we," "us," or "our"). WakeJam is an AI-powered alarm clock application that generates personalized wake-up songs based on your day. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the WakeJam mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using WakeJam, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.

We collect information in several categories depending on how you use WakeJam:

Account Information

When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account name, email address, and profile photo via Firebase Authentication. This information is used to create and manage your WakeJam account.

iOS Waitlist Email

If you submit your email address through the iOS waitlist form on our website, we store that single email address in a private Google Sheet for one purpose only: to notify you on the day the WakeJam iOS app becomes available. We will send a maximum of one email to that address — the launch announcement — and we will delete your address from our records immediately after that email is sent. We do not use waitlist emails for any other communication, do not share or sell them, and do not link them to any other data we hold. If you wish to be removed from the waitlist before the launch email is sent, email hello@wakejam.app and we will delete your address.

Location Data

With your permission, WakeJam accesses your approximate location (via the ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION permission) to determine local weather conditions. Your approximate coordinates are sent to our server solely to retrieve weather data, then immediately discarded. Location data is not stored in our database. The resulting weather context (e.g., "sunny" or "rainy") is used to personalize your wake-up song lyrics.

Calendar Data

With your permission, WakeJam reads your calendar events (via the READ_CALENDAR permission) to weave your schedule into song lyrics. Calendar data is read locally on your device and used only for lyric generation. It is not stored on our servers.

Contacts Data

With your permission, WakeJam accesses birthday and anniversary dates from your contacts (via the READ_CONTACTS permission) to personalize song lyrics for special occasions. Contact data is read locally on your device and is not stored on our servers.

Music Preferences

During onboarding, you provide music preferences such as preferred genres and styles. This information is stored in our database to personalize your AI-generated songs.

Alarm Schedules

Alarm times, recurrence patterns, and associated settings that you create within the app are stored in our database to manage song generation scheduling.

Song Feedback

Ratings you give to generated songs and any content reports you submit are stored in our database to improve song quality and enforce content guidelines.

Device Identifiers

We collect Firebase instance IDs, Firebase Crashlytics installation UUIDs, and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) tokens. These are used for push notifications and crash reporting.

Usage Analytics

We collect app interaction events through Firebase Analytics, including screen views, feature usage patterns, and engagement metrics. This data helps us understand how the app is used and improve the experience.

Crash Data

Firebase Crashlytics automatically collects crash reports including stack traces, device model, operating system version, and app state at the time of a crash. This data is used to identify and fix bugs.

We use the information we collect to:

• Personalize your wake-up songs - Using your calendar, weather, contacts, and music preferences to generate unique, relevant lyrics
• Provide core app functionality - Managing your account, alarms, and song library
• Send push notifications - Notifying you when your song is ready or when important alarm events occur
• Analyze usage patterns - Understanding how features are used to improve the app experience
• Monitor app stability - Using crash data to identify and resolve technical issues
• Enforce content guidelines - Reviewing reported songs to maintain content quality

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.

WakeJam integrates with the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:

Firebase (Google)

We use Firebase Authentication (sign-in), Firebase Analytics (usage tracking), Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications), and Firebase Crashlytics (crash reporting). These services are operated by Google. Google Privacy Policy

PostHog

We use PostHog for product analytics and session replay. PostHog records anonymized session replays of app interactions to help us understand user experience and identify issues. Text input fields are automatically masked in recordings. No passwords or sensitive text are captured. PostHog Privacy Policy

OpenRouter (AI Language Models)

We use OpenRouter to access AI language models for generating personalized song lyrics and creative direction. The data sent includes music style preferences and contextual summaries (such as weather conditions and general schedule context). We do not send personally identifiable information (such as your name or email) to OpenRouter. OpenRouter Privacy Policy

Suno API

We use the Suno API for AI-powered music generation. When generating a song, we send lyrics and style parameters to Suno. We do not send personally identifiable information (such as your name or email) to Suno. Suno Privacy Policy

WeatherAPI

We use the WeatherAPI service to retrieve current weather conditions. Your approximate geographic coordinates are sent to WeatherAPI solely for this purpose and are not stored by us. No other personal information is transmitted. WeatherAPI Privacy Policy

Your account data, alarm schedules, music preferences, and song feedback are stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Render in the United States. All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using TLS (Transport Layer Security). Authentication is handled through Firebase Authentication with industry-standard security practices.

While we implement commercially reasonable security measures, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

We retain your account data, alarm configurations, and song library for as long as your account is active. Analytics data collected through Firebase Analytics and PostHog is retained according to those services' standard retention policies and is progressively anonymized. Crash reports are retained for a limited period to support debugging efforts.

When you delete your account, your personal data is anonymized within 30 days as described in the Account Deletion section below.

You have several choices regarding your data:

• Deny permissions - You can decline location, calendar, and contacts permissions. WakeJam will still work, but songs will be less personalized.
• Revoke permissions - You can revoke any previously granted permission through your device's Settings at any time.
• Delete your account - You can delete your account and associated data through the app (see Account Deletion below).
• Opt out of analytics - You can limit ad tracking and analytics through your device's privacy settings.

You can delete your WakeJam account at any time by navigating to Settings > Delete Account within the app. When you request account deletion:

• Your account is immediately deactivated and you are signed out
• Your personally identifiable information (name, email, profile photo) is anonymized within 30 days
• Non-personal data (anonymized usage metrics) may be retained for analytics purposes
• This process is irreversible once the anonymization is complete

WakeJam uses artificial intelligence to generate original songs. AI language models (via OpenRouter) create personalized lyrics, and Suno generates the music. While we design our prompts to produce appropriate, enjoyable content, AI-generated lyrics and music may occasionally produce unexpected or nonsensical results.

If you encounter a song with inappropriate or offensive content, you can report it directly within the app using the report button on the song player or song manager screen. We review reported content and use feedback to improve our content guidelines.

WakeJam is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information as soon as possible. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@wakejam.app.

WakeJam is operated from and our servers are located in the United States. If you are accessing the Service from outside the United States, please be aware that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

By using WakeJam, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and the processing of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

• Right to Know - You may request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
• Right to Delete - You may request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
• Right to Opt-Out of Sale - We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
• Right to Non-Discrimination - We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data based on:

• Consent - For optional data access such as location, calendar, and contacts permissions, which you can withdraw at any time
• Contract performance - For providing the core WakeJam service, including account management and song generation
• Legitimate interest - For analytics, crash reporting, and service improvement, balanced against your privacy rights

Your GDPR Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Rectify inaccurate personal data
• Erase your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
• Port your data to another service
• Restrict processing of your personal data
• Object to processing based on legitimate interest

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by other appropriate means before the changes take effect. We encourage you to review this page periodically for the latest information on our privacy practices.
